Air Pressure Experiment

Hello everybody!

This morning we had some fun with a very cool experiment!!My mom and I are following the Google science fair team on G+. Today we watched a live google hangout about air pressure. It made me want to try the experiment.
Picture of the science fair

Here's a list of the materials you need to complete the experiment;

  • Matches
  • Glass Bottle
  • Hard Boiled Egg Without The Shell
  • Paper Towels

First, we tried using a beer bottle, but it didn't work because the opening was too small.

Then we used a vitamin bottle with a larger opening.
Now have a look at the video and see if it worked perfectly!
This was a very fun experiment!!!

What happens is when the match goes in the bottle the air warms up(higher air pressure) and expands inside the bottle. When the match cools down, the air contracts and the hardboiled egg gets sucked in.

Chinese Lanterns Rock!

"YAY!" I said, "I'm so excited to go to the Chinese Lanterns with my great grand-mother!"

As you probably guessed by the title, I'm going to show you one of my favourite days of the year. Chinese Lantern Day!

This is actually a family tradition. Each year we go to the Chinese Lantern Festival at the Montreal Botanical Gardens. Last CLD (Chinese Lantern Day) was the first time my great grand-mother went to the festival. Oddly enough, she lives in the same city that CLD is held.

Last years CLD was very cool since they added new lanterns. Before I talk about the lanterns I must tell you about the greenhouses.  It was even cooler since on CLD they put coloured lights around the greenhouses. Now that thats out of the way let's move on to the lanterns. The lanterns are held in the Botanical Garden and it was in the Chinese section. We arrived there at about 6 or 7 o clock. since it wasn't time for the lanterns yet we went to go check out the greenhouses.

Then we finally went to the lanterns. My grand-mother was amazed by all the colours. Basically, there are 2 areas to explore. There's an area where there are chineses buildings (pagodas) with an overview of the lake lanterns, and there's an area near a waterfall on a mountain with the other lanterns. If you want to make lanterns for yourself check out this link: Chinese Lanterns

I felt outstandingly happy to be there once again, and I'm really excited for the next one.

Hope you liked this short presentation on Chinese Lantern Day.

Bye!

Measuring Area

Today we worked on an amazing projet.
Basically, we measured the floor of the first floor of our house. We wanted to know how much flooring     we need so that we buy enough and also so that we don't buy too much.

So here's what we did: first, we measured the length and the width of our rooms.

Then, we multiplied the width and the length to get the area of each room.

Next, we added them together. Our floor was equal to 707 square ft.

Now, we will need to calculate how much the new flooring will cost.

I might make a model in minecraft and I will post it on my blog.

BEARS!!!

Today I'm going to show you my bears...I know what you're thinking, no worries cause they're caterpillars!!! Meet Norm and Wurmple. Right now they're sleeping, but they can predict winter. The wider the brown stripe is the milder winter will be. After they hibernate they will make a cocoon and turn into an Isabella tiger moth.

I don’t know what to write today, but I know I need to do it. My friends are coming over in 30 min and I think that we are going to play games outside and inside.

I love pixelated video games because there is a lot of action and adventure in those kind of games.
